A quick insight on the happenings of The Millstone.
Many years ago, around 2015, Andrew Powell decided he wanted a coffee shop. He didn’t want just any shop and location. He wanted to introduce Carrollton, OH to good coffee. He didn’t know how or what, but coffee was becoming a passion of his. Before going further in this story, lets rewind a bit more.
In 2008, Andrew and Jenny Powell (then Jenny Stout) graduated from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida. Andrew had a dream to own his own business and graduated with a Bachelor in Business Management. Jenny graduated with a Bachelor in Office Administration. Shortly after graduation, Andrew and Jenny got married. Andrew found jobs working with his hands in construction, excavating, and landscaping. He had (and still does) have a passion for the outdoors but in that time frame he found that coffee lacked quality. It was black water. Motor oil. Mud. If it had taste, the flavor was that of dirt, not a beverage desired for but rather drank out of necessity for the caffeine. Those in similar industries, know exactly what we’re talking about. Quality coffee is hard to come by and when you CAN find it, you pay through the nose for it. This passion for quality coffee grew into a desire to have something he could control. To have quality coffee, you must have quality control.
Fast forward to 2024. Andrew’s passion for a coffee shop in Carrollton never subsided despite being turned down by Dunkin for a franchise opportunity. No, we know that wasn’t quality coffee but Andrew was trying everything he could to get the experience and have the opportunity to open his shop. Even though others started shops in the area, it didn’t deter him from his goals. That coffee was okay but wasn’t quite there.
Not Andrew…..
My Life with coffee
With the purchase of this facility in Carrollton, we, as a team were able to start fulfilling the dream. Although initially a little more than we had planned with food, God knew it would fit well with our experience – specifically Jenny’s.
Jenny was able to utilize her experience as a stay at home mom/cook/master-of-everything. From the very beginning, she had a knack for cooking and applied that experience to the soups we offered. Each and every one is either made by her or has her touch added to it. Some recipes come from family secrets while others have been added or picked up along the way.
Although our menu offerings are fairly simple as far as culinary palettes are concerned, they all have attention to detail that offers an experience not found in Carroll County. Whether is the combination of flavors, the spices, or the premium ingredients used, the flavor profile we offer matches the quality of our coffee.
Pizza is something that Carroll County has a LOT of. Our pizza is not just your standard pie. Our crust is a premium focaccia crust topped with our homemade sauce, premium four cheese blend, and several combinations of ingredients. Our signature savory sauce pairs perfectly with the flavorful crust that results in an artisan quality pie like no other.
Andrew’s favorite sandwich is a burger. Hands down. When this layout/setup was purchased, they did not offer a burger. If we were offering food, the burger was going to be there. Not just any burger. A burger worthy of the name burger. We aren’t talking some fast food slime patty. We are talking a half-pound, perfectly seasoned, mouthwatering premium steak burger that offers flavor at every bite.
We hope that you agree that our food is unique and possesses quality at every turn. We try our hardest not to cheap out on the ingredients but rather always provide quality product. We hope and pray that every visit to our establishment is satisfactory.
